Who this is for, and what it helps you decide

Writers and producers preparing Class-I or Class-II pre-production filings or outline changes; webnovel authors and rights holders with hot titles or screen adaptations who worry about AI rewrites racing them to short drama or comic drama; and distributors pitching vertical drama into European free streaming or North American FAST/OTT, not only mobile pay apps.

It helps with three calls: whether October's justice, revolutionary and sequel-heavy filing mix should reshape your slate; whether any short-drama or comic-drama deal must trace rights back to the original novel; and whether to add European free tabs and North American FAST channels to your pitch list.

Today's watchlist (4 items)

1. China filing: 159 key/Class-I online microdramas planned for October. DataEye Research, carried by Sina Entertainment on November 3, said the National Radio and Television Administration (NRTA) published the October 2026 national planning filing for key online microdramas/AI dramas: 159 titles, about 29% fewer than September, with legend titles about 34%, urban about 23% and justice about 9.4% rising to third. The Paper's November 4 account said the list was posted on November 2, came from 134 applicants (down 65 from September's 224), and named iQIYI's three Siming filings, Tencent Penguin Pictures' fifth Mi Xiaoquan season, and five justice titles filed at once by Xi'an Qujiang. Useful for: teams preparing Class-I filings, special justice/public-security subjects or multi-season splits. Limit: we read DataEye and The Paper, not an NRTA notice page for this October Class-I list; treat the official posting as authoritative.

2. Webnovel rights: AI rewrite gray market aimed at short-drama and comic-drama. A Publishers magazine feature reprinted by China Writer Network on November 5 says Zhu Yu author Tuanzi Laixi found AI-rewritten works that reused her characters, relationships and world-building; Jinjiang legal staff say lookalike titles rose during screen-adaptation windows from 2023–2024; a late-August Weibo thread on a 'webnovel IP gray market' described studios AI-washing hit novels into shorts, self-dealing them through rights malls, then making comic dramas. The piece also flags unlicensed AI comic/short-drama adaptations and downstream buyers that accept rewritten copyright files without tracing the original novel. Useful for: webnovelists with adaptation plans and short-drama teams taking adapted scripts. Limit: cases and platform comments are reported interviews, without judgments or a full evidence file; we did not verify individual infringing accounts.

3. Europe: Mediaset Infinity opens a free Microdrama section. Mediaset Infinity's site on November 4 said it is the first Italian player to launch a free section devoted to microdramas, mixing international vertical series with vertical re-edits of its own titles Il peccato e la vergogna and Rosy Abate, and listing Turkish-origin examples such as Too Young to Love Me, Unmasked and In sua difesa. A Tgcom24 write-up covers the same launch. Useful for: distributors eyeing European free streaming or vertical re-cuts of finished shows. Limit: no purchase terms, episode quotas or third-party supply window were published.

4. North America: VueWho covered as a microdrama FAST channel. TV News Check reported on November 5 that KSA Entertainment launched VueWho for FAST/OTT, English first with Spanish and international titles planned for 2027; the company said English programming went up on October 27, aimed at viewers 18–54 across romance, suspense and action, distributed with FAST Channels TV. Useful for: English-language vertical teams looking beyond mobile pay apps. Limit: the report names no carrier line-up, ad split or catalogue size; the '100 million viewers' figure is the company's.

What remains unclear

For the October Class-I/key microdrama filing we did not find a matching NRTA notice page; the 159 count, genre shares and title names all come from DataEye and The Paper and may differ from the official text.

There is no official count of AI-rewrite cases or platforms involved. Mediaset's supply rules and VueWho's carriage, ad inventory and slate size are unpublished. None of these figures were checked with the parties.

What it may mean for creators (editorial inference, untested)

On filing, justice and revolutionary subjects still belong in Class I, and October's list already shows IP split across multiple filing numbers and numbered sequels; it is safer to lock the outline at the higher tier than to refile mid-shoot. That reading matches our guide on Class I/II/III microdrama rules, but it is editorial inference, not a new regulation.

On rights, short-drama and comic-drama teams that accept only a rewritten rights packet risk stepping into the gray chain; deals should require a trace to the original novel, and authors should watch for same-setup, near-homophone AI rewrites during screen windows. On distribution, a free European tab and a North American FAST channel show vertical drama is no longer only a mobile pay-app business—pitches can include vertically re-editable masters and English/Spanish localisation notes. All of this is editorial inference.

Method & limitations

On November 6, 2026 (Beijing time) we read DataEye Research's October key-microdrama filing report as carried by Sina Entertainment on November 3, The Paper's November 4 account of the same list, the Publishers magazine feature on a webnovel-IP gray market reprinted by China Writer Network on November 5, Mediaset Infinity's November 4 Microdrama section note, the related Tgcom24 report, and TV News Check's November 5 report on VueWho. The window is November 2 to 6. Media and company claims are reported as stated and kept separate from editorial inference.

All four items rest on public reports; we did not contact the NRTA, Jinjiang, Mediaset, KSA Entertainment or the named authors, could not find the NRTA's own October Class-I/key microdrama filing notice, did not verify gray-market case files, and draw no conclusions about anyone's revenue, share or ranking.
