Short drama and webtoon brief, Nov 4: ONE Store opens a short-drama tab in Korea, CBC takes short-form pitches, and what writers pitching abroad should watch
On November 3, Korean app store ONE Store launched a short-drama service called One Drama, and a Korean outlet citing Mobileindex reported that five of October's top ten entertainment apps by new installs in Korea were Chinese-backed short-drama platforms, led by NetShort at 750,000; the same day Canada's CBC was reported to have hired a head of digital originals who will take short-form pitches from local producers, Korea's culture ministry named ten winners of the World Webtoon Awards, and on November 2 ElevenLabs put its SFX v3 sound-effects model into its API. Writers and teams making vertical dramas for overseas audiences can use this to decide whether Korea deserves its own localisation plan and whether there is a pitching window in Canada, while teams using AI for test footage can decide whether to try a new sound model. CBC only said vertical dramas could be considered, not that it will commission them; the Korean install figures are third-party estimates, not revenue; and ElevenLabs' quality claims are its own, none of which we tested.
